MEET THE ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE: Bianca Turner
Bianca Turner
Bianca turner (Brazil, 1984) is an artist, a current PHD student in Contemporary Art (University of Coimbra), BA in ‘Design and Performance Practice’ at Central Saint Martins (2011, London) and a Master’s in “Scenography” at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (2013, London).
Highlights of her trajectory are the participation in the Verbo Performance Art Festival at Gallery Vermelho in São Paulo in 2022 and 2018, in the 40th Arte Pará and in the 1st Salão de Arte de Goiás in 2022, in the opening performance of the 34th Bienal de SP in 2020 in collaboration with Neo Muyanga and with Coletivo Legítima Defesa, at the 46th SARP (MARP) in 2021, at the SSA Mapping Festival in 2018, at the Curitiba Biennial 2017; at the 18th Salão Ubatuba of Arts 2022, and at the 36th Salão de Jacarezinho in 2021, both with award-winning work.
Her research explores the notion of the archive as an imperialist imposition, the expansion of time-space through the use of audiovisual resources and video projection in relation to the body. Bianca develops her personal investigation as well as collaborates with theater groups, performance and music artists, and also creates videomapping artwork for comissioned festivals.
Within the MANIFEST Artistic Journey, Bianca will be working in tandem with Luanda Carneiro Jacoel
My intention and motivation is to unravel the tensions and provocations of the paradoxical existence of archives as foundations for the notion of Territory. The main tension being the impossibility of not replicating the image of violence produced by the political regime when using the same image to highlight the institutionalised position of the spectator when trying to deconstruct it.
